Biography:
Ruth Cruz was born in Mexico and immigrated to Chicago with her family when she was seven years old. She attended Carl Schurz High School and earned a Master’s degree in management from Robert Morris University. She worked as the assistant director of admissions at Roosevelt University. She also volunteered with the Avondale restorative justice court and was also an elected member of the Foreman High Local School Council. Before being elected Committeeperson in 2024, Ruth was elected as the first female Alderperson of Chicago's 30th Ward in 2023. She has worked to bring more transparency and community engagement to local government. She instituted new programs in the ward such as Participatory Budgeting and Community Zoning. This same spirit of building a vibrant, collaborative civic culture also fuels her mission as the new Democratic Committeeperson. She has founded a new organization called 30th Ward Dems, and has actively been organizing and recruiting new leaders from the community, getting them engaged in the electoral process.
